The sports weekend tested the residents’ competitive spirit, and love for a good challenge with a day brimming with opportunities to win! The East Versus West scoreboard further heightened the enthusiasm surrounding the events. The East team comprised of Goodearth residents of Medley, Footprints, Terraces, and Patterns B, and the West team was made up of Goodearth residents of Orchard, Palm Grove, Enclave, Resonance, Mosaic, and Patterns A. With custom t-shirts made for each team, the residents were divided into a sea of blue and red.

Sack Race :

The day started with a ‘3-KM Fun Run’. At 6:30AM, the morning grogginess was shaken off by a spirited warm-up to get everyone ready for the running. The residents then hit the ground running to cover the loop of the day- starting from the track of ABSF (Anju Bobby Sports Foundation)to the mouth of Malhar and back! With music pumping, and a bunch of residents cheering the runners on, fifty-odd kids and adults ran along the loop in high spirits.

Filling The Bottle :

The real competition began in the evening at ABSF- with age-based events in track, shot put, long jump, and more. From children under ten years old to the senior citizens category, there was an event for every Goodearth resident to participate in. Bayleaf and Petrichor both had food stalls parked in the grass for those wanting to indulge in some snacks between watching, and participating in, the events.

Senior citizens walk :

The evening kicked off with the little ones of Malhar competing in some unique challenges! From filling a glass bottle across the field with water from their hands to jumping across the field in a sack- these children embodied the idea that fun has to be at the center of the day. Whether they won or lost, the ever-energetic kids of Malhar showed no signs of being phased. They were here to have a good time regardless of the outcome!

The event that captured everyone’s hearts, by far, was the 400m Senior citizens walk. The event saw residents above 60 years competing against each other on one loop of the track. All the participants started fair, with everyone trying to remain within the rules of walking but ended with most contestants sprinting to the finish line in true competitive spirit!

All the residents gave it their complete efforts, no doubt helped by their families and friends cheering them on from the stands. With a packed day and back-to-back events, it truly felt like a chance to be an athlete for most of the participants. As the evening wore on, the tallies for East and West grew closer to each other. The cheering squads for both sides grew louder too, with each event that passed!

The last, and deciding events for the day were the relay races for men and women, bringing a wave of cheers whenever the East or West teams won a particular event. When the results were finally tallied, the East team ended up being victorious in Malhar’s first-ever sports weekend and the individual winners were given medals and a podium finish to top it all off.
